Charmaine Neville's Escape Account

Popular New Orleans musician Charmaine Neville was evacuated to Baton Rouge and she told her story in the WAFB studio today.

Neville describes the first few days, from a house torn
apart to the desperate hours on a roof as the water and food run out to dead bodies, alligators, rape, murder and the helicopters that just pass overhead.

Toward the end she sympathizes even with those who've committed the worst of crimes. She understands the desperation, she understands our collective culpability, she refuses to dehumanize.
